Labels with Digital Spot Varnish Set New Standards
Labels with digital spot varnish stand out from the crowd. Compared to conventional labels without finishing, labels that are digitally finished in a cost-effective manner impress with their unique appearance.
While labels with traditional finishes require special tools, labels with digital spot varnish do not. This allows label.co.uk to offer unique, high-quality labels with finishes at fair prices, which are produced in an extremely time-, cost- and resource-efficient manner. Digital spot varnish is therefore flexible and suitable for a wide range of requirements and applications – even for short print runs! Whether for spirits labels, labels for cosmetics or other luxury products such as wine, labels with digital spot varnish emphasise the exclusivity of your product!
Our digital spot varnish sets new standards for exclusive finishes and gives your products a distinctive look. Select the appropriate parameters such as size or material, and then the digital spot varnish in the online calculator. Then specify further ordering details, and finally upload the printing data.
How Does Digital Spot Varnish Work?
With this digital finishing process, selected areas are coated with a transparent, glossy varnish to make them stand out visually. A PDF and digital images are used to define exactly where the varnish should be applied.
Unlike conventional finishing, labels with digital spot varnish do not require any specially made tools, as the finish is applied digitally. Because no tools are required, this is a cost-effective and time-saving alternative to traditional finishes such as hot foil stamping, blind embossing or relief embossing.

Creating Printing Files for Labels with Digital Spot Varnish Correctly
When it comes to correct printing data, there are various aspects to consider for labels with digital spot varnish. Of course, our artwork service team will be happy to take care of this for you! By selecting the package that best suits your needs, your printing data will be created or adapted. We offer two packages: Smart and Professional.
Would you like to create the printing files for your labels with digital spot varnish yourself? The following tools are available to assist you:
When planning out your label design, please consider that elements and fonts on your roll labels that are to be finished with digital spot varnish must have a minimum line width of 0.3 mm, and empty spaces and negatively cut-out elements must be at least 0.7 mm.
Production: Labels with Digital Finishing
Labels with digital spot varnish do not require any specially manufactured tools, as the finish is applied digitally. Nevertheless, production-related variations can occur, similar to traditional finishes. In addition, material-dependent characteristics may occur: on label materials with an open-pored surface to which the varnish is applied, the varnish may run. For this reason, textured papers are not suitable for labels with digital spot varnish.

Traditional Finishes as an Alternative
Digital spot varnish ensures that certain elements are highlighted or coated with a glossy, transparent varnish. Of course, your label can also be finished with traditional finishes that create similar effects: label.co.uk offers hot foil stamping, blind embossing and relief embossing.
If you choose hot foil stamping as an alternative or in addition, foil is applied to specific areas using a tool (without partial deformation). We offer hot foil in various colours and with different effects. Blind embossing involves partial deformation of the label. Relief embossing is also an option, which is a combination of blind and hot foil embossing: selected areas of the label are not only deformed, but also covered with foil at the same time.
Compared to traditional finishes, digital spot varnish is considered cost-effective because no additional tools are used. It should be noted that the use of spot varnish can produce only a limited visual and tactile similarity to traditional finishes. For complex effects, we recommend traditional finishes. Our spot varnish is transparent, which limits the colour range. This can be compensated, through the selection of the background colour.
An Extra Layer of Protection
Finishes with a protective function include film lamination and protective varnish. Protective varnish not only gives your label a higher-quality or more eye-catching finish, but also protects it from everyday wear and tear. Film lamination involves applying a transparent film to the label instead of varnish to protect it from more severe abrasion.
Both finishes can be combined with digital spot varnish in a glossy version.
