A new EU regulation that will revolutionise the labelling of wine and wine-based beverages has come into effect on 8th of December 2023. EU Regulation 2021/2117, also known as the CAP reform, obliges wine producers, bottlers and retailers to provide information on ingredients, nutritional values and energy content on their wine labels. There are two ways of implementation for this endeavour: classic and electronic. In both cases, information on allergens and the energy content must be printed on the label. 

Here, the mandatory information is provided via a QR code on the label. These digital labels offer many advantages, such as more space for creative design and the possibility of reducing the label size.

Your information is placed on the label in printed form, including a table with nutrition declaration and ingredients list.

1. Know values or have them determined: To fulfil the new requirements, you need to know or have the relevant values determined for your wine labels.

2. QR code or not: Decide whether you want to choose the electronic route with a QR code. If so, contact your website administrator or use one of the well-known platform providers. Otherwise, the information must be printed directly on the label. Information on allergens and the energy content must be printed on the label in both variants.

3. Label design: Due to the additional information, changes to the design are necessary. Simply book the Pro package available in our artwork services and we will integrate the new information into your existing label design. If you are planning a complete redesign of your labels, our design service is at your disposal.

4. Coordination with the relevant authorities: Your responsibility for the accuracy of the labels recommends coordination with the relevant authorities. We recommend submitting the design to them in advance by e-mail or post.
