Which option is best suited to my application?
At label.co.uk, you can choose between having your labels produced on rolls or on sheets.
Both production methods offer their own advantages and are suitable for different use cases. Below, we explain when each option is most appropriate for your label requirements. Lastly, we discuss the difference between A4 and A4+ sheets.
Key Differences
1. Label Processing
The first major difference lies in how the labels are processed after production:
- Self-adhesive roll labels are perfectly suited for mechanical application.
- With roll labels, you can also define specific technical details according to the needs of your labeling machine:
- Winding direction
- Core diameter
- Roll diameter or number of labels per roll
You can find all roll options here: roll configuration.
- Self-adhesive labels on sheets, on the other hand, are not suitable for machine application and are ideal if labels are applied manually.
2. Print Run Size
Another key difference is the size of the print run.
Generally speaking:
- Roll labels are better suited for larger volumes
- Labels on sheets are ideal for smaller print runs
3. Material and Finishing Options
Both roll and sheet labels can be freely customised in terms of shape, size and design.
However, there are some limitations when it comes to materials and finishes:
- For labels on rolls, you can choose from over 15 different materials using the label calculator. Additionally, you can apply special finishes such as hot foil stamping (foil embossing).
- For sheet labels, the range of materials is more limited and special finishes such as spot varnish are not available.
The optimal solution should always be assessed individually based on the specific needs of your order!
No matter which option you choose, label.co.uk will find the perfect solution for your application and requirements.

A4+ Sheet Labels Explained
At label.co.uk, labels are supplied on sheets that are at least A4 size, and up to A4+:
- An A4+ sheet has a maximum format of: 330 x 220 mm
The maximum dimensions of your label can be:
- 305 mm wide (or tall)
- 215 mm tall (or wide)
The Advantage of A4+ Sheets
A4+ sheets will be slightly larger than standard A4 sheets. This is especially useful for custom-shaped labels, as they can be positioned more efficiently on the larger sheet. As a result, A4+ sheet label production is both more efficient and more environmentally friendly.
Note: We cannot specify in advance which exact sheet size you will receive. This is automatically determined during the print preparation stage based on the quantity and size of the labels you order. The most efficient sheet size is selected automatically. This helps to reduce waste and minimise production time.
