Labels for Cold Temperatures

In both the food and pharmaceutical industries, it is essential to label products permanently and safely even at temperatures below zero degrees Celsius. We offer standard as well as special materials and adhesives that are ideal for cooling temperatures. Thanks to sharp printing images and high resistance to moisture and temperature they not only guarantee reliable adhesion but also excellent legibility.

Deep-freeze adhesive vs. standard adhesive

Labels with a deep-freeze adhesive require different handling than those with a standard adhesive. Our standard high-gloss white paper with freezer adhesive is the best proof of this. It’s a material with a special adhesive that we can add to your personal calculator. There are a few things to bear in mind during application to ensure that the labels adhere reliably to your products:

• Application temperature: One of the most important factors is the temperature of the product at the time of application. The so-called application temperature should be at least -25°C. Even frozen products, such as ice cream tubs, can be labelled.
• Resting time: You should also give the freshly labelled products a little time and allow them to ‘rest’ before exposing them to further temperature differences. This also helps the adhesive to reach its full adhesive strength. We recommend a resting time of at least 20 minutes.
• Manual labelling: If you apply your labels with deep-freeze adhesive to your products by hand, special care must be taken. Make sure you press the labels evenly and firmly onto the product. This is the only way to ensure reliable adhesion.

The guidelines are slightly different for the labelling process of materials with our standard adhesive. Materials with standard adhesive should be applied at temperatures above 0°C. They can then withstand temperatures between -20°C and +80°C, while labels with freezer-grade adhesive are suitable for temperatures between -40°C and +60°C.
